Maxi dresses on short gals like me.

I love maxi dresses. I actually wear them all the time in the Summer. Some people however who are short like me (5ft 2") don't feel as though they can wear these long dresses. I , however disagree...

Here are some ways to make Maxie's work for us short gals:

-wear tall wedges or platforms. Both are very comfortable shoe options and also add a lot of height.

-get the dress altered to a shorter length. It typically won't cost more than $15 to have this done...or maybe you know someone who would do it for free:)

- give the dress a raw edge hem by simply cutting the dress off at the bottom. Be careful when doing this and use fabric scissors so you get a clean, straight cut.

- for a beachy/casual look let the dress drag a bit and wear a fun sandal or flip flop (you don't want to be tripping over it), but a little extra length is ok at times.

Billabong sundress.

One of my favorite new dresses from Jb and me. This fun printed sundress is by the brand Billabong and I snagged it for only $44 at Jb and me! The platforms are at the store as well... I love them:). I added a bright neon chain necklace to my outfit to add more color by my face, and paired it with a purple messenger bag. Fun and summery:)

Floral.

Floral is becoming a big trend right now, we're seeing it on shorts, t-shirts, blouses and even shoes. I'm not sure if I will be wearing floral on my lower half this season, but I'm definitely digging it on tops. I've paired this blouse (which I purchased at Jb and me for $24!) with an older pair of true religion Becky jeans, and a pair of OTBT platforms. These shoes are so comfy and they give me lots of added height! Who else is wearing floral this season?

P.S. don't forget to sign up for the giveaway I posted yesterday!

My retro halter dress.

Today was a good day.  It was sunny out, and I got to wear my new polka dot Leota halter dress.  Some of you who shop jb and me might be familiar with this line...if not you must check it out.  The dresses are made of a material that doesn't wrinkle (a huge plus for me), they are made of adorable prints, and best of all they are so figure flattering!

Check out her website to see some of the Spring 2012 options... I also posted a new option from jb and me today on our facebook page

Girls night out.

Had a chance to have some girl time with my friend Abby tonight. We went to one of our favorite local spots called Pereddies in holland. We enjoyed good wine, yummy food and great conversation.

Here are both of our looks for the day:

Abby is wearing an adorable skirt from j crew, along with a denim top from AG.

I'm wearing a new sweatshirt top from Jb and me by Billabong. Typically not a brand I wear a ton of, but we have been getting some pretty cute stuff in at the store from them and it's great prices too! The flamingos remind me of childhood trips to Florida with my family;) good memories!

We are both wearing our favorite type of shoe: loafers! Can't go wrong with them!

Free People Frenzy.

I have to first start off by apologizing for not updating my blog in the last few days... I just bought a new house and have been busy, busy, moving/unpacking/etc.  It's been a lot of work, but I finally just got my internet hooked up so I'm back!!!
We've recently been getting a lot of great Free People items in at the store and I wanted to share some of my favorites with you...

Denim Bustier polka dot dress.
I love this little dress because the fit it not only very flattering, it is just very fun and summery.  For those of you who don't like things to low cut this style may not be for you...we tried it with a tank top layered underneath and it just took away from the dress.  You could, however easily throw a cardigan on over it.

We the Free marble effect button down top.

The color of this blouse is what attracted it to me first, but then I also loved the lightweight and breezy material it's made out of.  Perfect thrown on with a cutoff short like in the picture or with a pair of colored denim!

Free People Spring Gingham buttondown.
This little blouse has been a favorite to many of our employees ( 3 of them own it already )  It's super cute with colored denim of with jeans...very summery!

Free People Sheer Buttondown Tunic.

This is one of my new faves that I own... I was lucky enough to receive it for a birthday gift from my bosses Maribeth and Jamie:)  As I mentioned in a few of my other blog posts I love the neon look ( it will look even better once I have a tan) It's long enough to wear with leggings or paired with denim leggings, which is exactly how I wore it the last time.  The GR store still has this option left in a very pale blush pink...

Free People Printed Floral Cut off short.
We don't have these in at the store, but I am trying to order them for one of my co-workers Kasidee who has them on her wish list.  When she showed them to me we both agreed they would be adorable worn a little slouchy.  This way they would be a little longer too... I'm not good in really short shorts:)

What do you guys think about these Free People picks?  Like em? Love em? or not your style?

* All items can be found at jb and me except for the floral shorts:)

Green Blazer.

I just purchased this blazer yesterday at jb and me for a few reasons... green is one of my favorite colors right now and also you can wear blazers over just about anything!
I layered it today over a nikibiki coral tank and a beaded tank from urban outfitters. This added a pop of color under the blazer and a little added detail. To also continue with my pop of coral I added my new vintage necklace from allegan antique market (which I love). On bottom i wore my skinny fidelity jeans and sixty seven boots. For my hair I braided a messy fishtail braid;)

My Allegan steal of a deal.

This Sunday was the first Allegan Antique fair of the year.  Abby and I woke up extra early to be there to get the best deals of the day. I found this great gold necklace for only $1! Can't beat that price, right?
For those of you that also love gold jewelry I have found some of my favorite necklaces for awesome deals while attending Allegan... I highly suggest you all check it out:). It makes for a really great girls day shopping!
